Our pricing structure is simple and easy – just as it should be. All keys to any one property are held on a retainer fee of £0.80 per day. This price covers the Norfolk keyholding fee and also registering ourselves with Norfolk Constabulary as key holders (We cover the £13/£25 registration fee charged by Norfolk Constabulary). This means in the event of an alarm, fire or other emergency where access is needed our 24 hour response line will be the first point of contact for the emergency services which could save you time, money and prevent further damage to your property. What is Keyholding?
Keyholding is a licenseable activity for which any person who carries out the task must hold a valid license issued by the Security Industry authority (SIA). The SIA list the requirements of the role as:
A Key Holding licence is required when keeping custody of, or controlling access to, any key or similar device for operating (whether mechanically, electronically or otherwise) any lock.
The activity is actually made licenseable under Schedule 2 of the Private Security Industry Act 2001. Therefore any person who carries out keyholding activities without a license may be committing a criminal offence.
The actual activity of keyholding, for the most part, in the security industry to a licensed operative or company holding the keys primarily commercial or industrial property, normally for a retainer fee, and attending in the event of an alarm activation. Most people do not know that a number of police forces will not attend a commercial alarm activation without a confirmed break-in. (unless a police monitored contract is in place)
Why do I need keyholding?
Lots of companies use internal staff for keyholding and this is usually a convenient solution, however using untrained internal staff leaves a company open to all sorts of risks including lone worker safety, injury whilst attending a callout due to intruder conflict, employee fatigue (and possible breach of working time directives) as well as the serious temptation to drink drive when responding to late night calls.
Clearly most of the above are unlikely situations but as a company utilising a reputable SIA licensed keyholding service helps mitigate these risks. Our staff are trained in conflict management and dispute resolution. Keyholding is also one of our main roles so we have staff scheduled and on duty to respond to any alarm activation that may occur without fear of having to be “on standby” limiting an employees free time and social life.
What happens if my alarm goes off?
In the event of an alarm activation your alarm receiving centre (ARC*) will be notified if you have a monitored system. If you do not have a monitored system it is likely that a member of public will call the local police force. Upon notification the ARC or police force will make contact with ourselves and we will dispatch resources to the location of the property. Our standard response time is under 60 minutes but we usually aim to arrive within 20 minutes.
Once on scene we will carry out an external patrol and look for visible signs of entry or disturbance. If there is no visible signs of entry we will enter the property and reset the alarm systems. If there are signs of entry we will immediately secure the outside of the property where possible and call for police assistance. To preserve evidence we will never enter a property with a visible sign of entry unless the property is at further danger (ie signs of fire) or risk to life.
